ROMANCE

He held me in his arms,
And said, "I'll never let you go."
I said, "Well, I don't think so.
What about the build up of BO?"
He said, "I will always love you.
Forever and a day."
"But nothing lasts forever," I said.
He frowned and turned away.
He said, "I think of you all the time."
I said, "That's just not possible."
He said, "You are always on my mind."
I said, "That must be horrible!"
He didn't say anything.
I asked him, "What's the matter?"
He deeply sighed, "Whatever I say,
You just appear to shatter."
I said, "Well, you have got to be realistic."
"Have I?" he said. "What's wrong with being romantic?"
"Nothing," I replied, "If you like that sort of thing."
"And you don't, I take it?" he said.
I started laughing.
"What's so flaming funny?" he scowled,
Starting to get annoyed,
"Romance is supposed to be a pleasure,
There to be enjoyed."
I said, "How can you enjoy something,
That doesn't really exist?"
He started huffing, puffing and sighing,
"I've had enough of this."
"Have you?" I said,
"What happened to forever and a day?
Didn't quite last that long, did it?
It couldn't even last for today!"
He frowned, "You miserable, little-"
"Oi!" I shouted, "Watch what you say."
"Oh, forget it," he carelessly mumbled,
Turning to go away.
"Well, off you pop, then," I said,
"Actions speak louder than words."
He stared at me, "What did you say?"
I held his gaze, "You heard."
"I heard," he said, "But I didn't understand."
"Can't you try?" I smiled, as I gently took his hand.
He smiled slightly, looking somewhat amused.
"You're strange," he suggested. "You have got me confused."
"Good," I said. "If you knew me too well,
Where would the fun in that really be?"
For a moment he seemed to be lost for words.
Then he beamed a beautiful smile at me.
I couldn't tell just what he was thinking,
But enjoyed what was there between him and me.
For nothing may be as magically romantic,
As a touch of intrigue and mystery.
