WANTING A FOOL

It was never meant to be;
How I wish I knew that then.
I hate how I truly fell,
For the most untrue of men.
I smiled at your pretence,
I thought something fake was great,
I accepted your false words;
But realised this far too late.
The heart can be mistaken,
As foolish desire pounds;
I'd built a castle of hope,
On the faultiest of grounds.
