Protest

I am staging a bed-in.
It has been 4 hours and
The press haven't arrived yet
But I have told Clair
And she says it all sounds
Deeply political.

My props: a Sandy Denny album
nag champa angled away from my face
I am a militant
In a rhythm method t-shirt
a battle scar of toothpaste
on my chin.

I have not yet picked my cause
but it will be worthy,
maybe ethnic and I would
like to wear a jahalapa like Hannah's dad
and angry cartoon eyebrows
and a piss-pot for emergencies.

Clair is soon to join me in the duvet trench
we are both in the throes
of something existential
I might make a banner saying
'sleep through your twenties'.
I hope she turns me over.
