Passing Through

It is hot
Bright and hot
Flowers happily grow
Water's scarce but
Plants make due
In the desert part of an unknown country
Western American style town 'cept
Just houses
White houses, all the same
Nothing different except the townspeople
Peculiar people
Alan passes through town in his car
Every door suddenly floats up into the sky
As he passes
His car doors fly open and up too
Elderly woman greets him
Sitting in a rocking chair
In midair
Seeping black liquid
Both hands occupied with activity
As her third arm waves
Little baby wants a converstation
Young man claiming that the sky is purple
But is actually blue
Philosopher teaching why the sun is unconcerned
And is away
Ragged man tells time with his eye
Strange creatures basking in moonlight
Alan confused
Waves and greets the old woman back
Steps on the gas
Relaxes
Turns on the radio, but
It turns into a gaping maw
Spouting shrills
Alan can't take it
Car paint slowly peels off
Car is going
Too fast
Tires suddenly burst
Car still gaining speed
Alan is hysterical as
He rides towards the horizon
Of the moon
