Failing Belief

I
I dig my nails
into the soil,
trying to peel
back the layers.
Filling in
gaps of time,
as if you
are the dirt
brown, smudged skin
clinging…
like tissue
or roots.
My fingers
divers
dragging our lake,
feeling for you.
II
Your spirit
falls away
from your body;
like wallpaper
from whitewashed walls.
Dishevelled angel wings,
turned up at the edges
like an old sepia photograph
a memory of something lost.
III
Memories fall apart;
Your image is dissolving…
I pray,
to keep you close.
Sketch the outline of your body;
re-building…
the layers which held you together.
Nothing more;
than prayers fill your veins
IV
Your body;
hangs...
a skeletal chandelier.
Sparkling...
in sun light.
Fragments of stained glass;
reflecting memories.
Whilst your frame;
crumbles....
the tears on your cheek;
shining...
rouge diamonds.
