A Tribute to Sammy B!
Sammy B was just twenty years old.
No age for his parents to be told,
'So sorry, but your son has passed away,
We thought he was here for a longer stay.'
To hear such terrible news was a shock,
For the parents who cared for him round the clock.
His every accomplishment a struggle won,
By their brave but physically disabled son.
He was helped to reach his full potential,
By loving parents who thought it essential,
To ensure his capabilities were fully realized,
And all his life-limiting hardships minimized.
His two brothers said Sammy was no weight,
He was top banana and their very best mate
The words ‘He ain't heavy he’s our brother,’
Were the words they used to tell his Mother.
Each member of Sam’s family loved him dear,
Seeing them all together that soon became clear.
With family help Sammy climbed so many hills,
In order to acquire some necessary life skills.
But eating out could sometimes cause grief,
And on odd occasions they sighed with relief,
When no one noticed Sammy’s attempt to entertain,
By lobbing his dinner and making noises like a train.
His family have much to be proud of when they reminisce,
But there is one thing all of them know they will miss,
And that is Sam’s happy face when in his happy place,
With no more struggling to keep his place in life’s race.
Sammy was helped to exceed all expectations,
By his family who deserve our sincere congratulations,
So Donna, Colin, Tom and Jack,
Be proud of what you did when you look back!
Rest in Peace Sammy B – For a short while you shared your life with us!

Moya, this is a wonderful tribute to a much loved young man. Reading your poem I felt so, so sad, but impressed by the love and pride of a family who never gave up on their son and brother.
RIP Sammy.

A short but full life, full
A short but full life, full of love and a great deal of happiness. So much more than some poor young souls get.
