Here lieth the modern man
If you look carefully you can see the memory of the girl
that he turned away when he decided
company wasn’t what he wanted
He can see her still in that university dorm
on the unmade bed
head in her hands, hair high on her head
Tears in her eyes
There was just a hint of satisfaction
some kind of karmic retribution
A justice against every girl
who wouldn’t fuck him when he was at school
Every girl who hooked him in
and led him on while
he opened doors
and nodded silently
making sure to look like he was listening
He was always such a nice guy.
In the end she took her husbands name
and now they share a 2 floor, 3 bedroom, semi detached in Kensington
with 2 sons and an epileptic springer spaniel named Olivia
He still has the shirt he wore the night he kissed her.
