The coin in my pocket is lonely,
the dishes are high in the sink.
The electric went off on Monday,
desperate, not serious, I think.
I've a hand to plunge in the pocket,
and a day to wander about.
I can steal food from the market:
desperate, not serious, no doubt.
My job went with hundreds of others,
I've had interviews for three,
I've posted a handful of letters:
desperate, not serious, you see.
The ring on my finger is worthless -
it cost me a hundred or so -
the last things we gave each other:
desperate, not serious, I know
