A father's thoughts

It brings me so much joy,
when I hear my children laugh
It makes the world better
And when they find it scary,
my arms will always comfort them
They believe there is no safer place,
and as long as I am able,
I will make it true
Were I a stronger man,
I would share with them,
how weak I really am
That I am afraid of failing them,
for I am no paragon
No hero of great virtue,
found in the books,
I read them at night
Just a man who is loved,
by these wonderful,
aggravating little people,
who do not know any better
I strive to be worthy of it,
that unconditional thing,
only the innocent can have
To teach them to be kind,
be strong and noble
It is my duty,
to point them in the right direction
I know as a parent,
we help give shape to the glass,
and that they are the ones,
who must fill it
I believe life is the time we spend,
trying to change from who we are,
in the moment,
into who it is we want to be
I wish to be,
all the things they believe I am
One day I will tell them,
the heroes in my story,
are them
