Last night I lay asleep in bed
When a poem came into my head
It would be remembered for all time
Perfect cadence, style and rhyme
Work like this had ne’er been seen
Causing maids to swoon and men to dream
The most wonderful poem ever written
All people hearing it would be smitten
A sparkling jewel of English verse
To resound across the universe
A perfect example in every way
Of all that a poet would ever say
Though there’s a pencil beside my bed
I remembered the words inside my head
But when I woke the very next morn
I found the perfect poem had gorn.
AND IT’S ALL MY FAULT.
