I get it
I understand
you cannot
be tied down
you stand against the sun
head up to the sky
smiling
and I in your shadow
Some things were meant to fly
and others left behind
wishing
to be completely free
like you
not me
Your eyes wander
when I talk
and I know
I understand
you're remembering
the cold wind in your hair
the brutal, barren desert
the nothingness of the horizon
where only you and the midnight stars
and God exist
but not me
I wish
I really do
that I were
even half like you
without qualms
or strings tied to the ground
free in the sun
but even more
I wish
that you would look down
see me
and my hopeful smile
take me with you
