Crafting With Ed

I had a dream the other night that when I woke did not slip away as they so often do. This particular dream, not the result of a late night coffee or too much cheese, was prompted, I think, by my lights-out scrolling through my twitter feed. I know. I know. Not sensible. But anyway, within my dream, which I was simultaneously part of and apart from, I was a member of a writing group with several similar others. This is something I wish for, for although I appreciate very much the support and critique from the ABCtales community, I’d welcome more opportunities to read out my work for comment and listen to the creations of others. For some reason the setting for the session was a rather large log cabin home and we, the writers, were spaced around the dwelling. The words flowing – I’m not sure about what – and with no technology available I quickly ran out of paper. I go looking for another member of the group, the first I come across being Ed Miliband. Strangely his presence does not surprise me but his activity does. Mr Miliband – it feels a little presumptuous to address him by his first name despite the title of this piece - is sitting on the floor surrounded by scissors, magazines and crafting materials happily working on a collage. Sadly, before I was able to ask him his political (because of course everything we do, whether acknowledged or not, is political in some way) motivation for his piece I awoke. Given my own interest in politics, and in differently creative ways to tell stories and spread messages, plus my hope for a better, brighter future ‘for the many’ I like to think the MP was reflecting on some of the multi-dimensional aspects of the work needed for this.
