She bought us one each
And I placed mine
Next to a ball light
From Habitat
I broke three of these lights
They were poorly manufactured.
When did I learn
To say such things?
The dwarf was resplendent
In Russian reds and greens
With a splinter round her middle
A chastity belt.
Once, in a pub
I skittered her across the lino,
Singing 'she wanted to test
Her husband, she knew
Exactly what to do'.
I did, I did
I snuggled inside
In smaller shapes
The perfect miniature you.
Until one day, a strange schism
We popped out of home
Two broken dolls
In old character skirts
With tiny thumbs poised.
Nostalgia is an easterly wind:
I have placed you
On the windowsill
Painted eyes
Into my room.
