My Favourite Colour's Changed

My favourite colour’s changed
Behind this mask I have evolved
Years gone by, assumptions
Made we stay the same
We’ve crossed countries, life
Stages like giant continents
Forests and lush meadows
Where we lifted our legs high
Charged up with a mutual force
Then for miles and miles
We walked the plateau
Flat and scattered green
But now in this desert scape
Dragging our bags behind
We draw a line upon the sand
Do we sit on them and wait to
Expire in the heat of our ashes
Where nothing really grows
Words singe the remainder
Of this subsisting wilted scrub
But a single desert rose you pick
And hold it up for me, you say
‘Your favourite colour…..pink.’
But I cannot take another thing
My favourite colour’s changed

what a great metaphor for
what a great metaphor for aging
We walked the plateau
Flat and scattered green
But now in this desert scape
Dragging our bags behind.
Pink is a halfway colour, isn't it? Unthreatening, which is why it's so scary it now seems the only colour for little girls. If you have changed to like stronger colours, you have grown to be strong. There will be cactuses flowering in your desert
