Nothing's Happening

Nothing’s happening
Just a lone traffic light
Tall and dark
Perhaps tired of standing.
Pesky orange cones
Stand in line
Teasing said traffic light
Taunting him with
Bad words but
Mild in comparison
With the waiting drivers.
A large hole
Weeps with embarrassment
‘When will I be filled?’
Sweating angels
In high vizz
Like real angels
Cannot be rushed.
They appear and stare
Gesticulate wildly
Toss in a pebble
Then leave in
A hungry haste.
The cones remain
The light blinks
Away tears of despair
Traffic jam is
Never sweet
All the drivers' say,
'Nothing’s happening'

What happens when a super creative person is forced to contemplate a boring situation :0) I like the idea of traffic jam not being sweet.

.. made me laugh (a true feat at this time of the morning) - I love the idea of the road being embarrassed!

it was the cold winter - the roads round here are completely knackered. Where I live they've been quite quick to repair them, but very nearby they've done nothing - not enough money left after paying the six figure salaries to the councillors!

Reminds me of an Edward Hopper painting. In fact it is - a pen portrait by Jane Hyphen. Nice atmosphere.

I love that line. For some reason it reminds me of an American Baptist refrain, but I can't pin it down.
Good pick.

Genius. The everyday made lovely. Always remember the Stereophonics take on traffic ‘We all face the same way yet it takes all day.’
