The Things I'll Miss

When my time is up and my number’s called
And I sit in some abyss.
When I step away from this spinning orb
I think of the things I’ll miss.
Like the taste of beer on a summers day
And the smell of new mown grass
A sky full of stars on the blackest night
A good malt in a chrystal glass.
Cuddling my dog on the sofa
Ears prick as I speak his name
Watching my favourite football team
Score a goal and win the game.
Hearing a baby giggle
Watching my children sleep
Going racing with my closest friends
Are all thoughts I want to keep.
Bread pudding made by dear old mum
And the smell of her apple pie
Seeing Dad’s face on his seventieth
A surprise that made him cry.
Taking a swim in the ocean
Where the sea is the deepest blue
But the one thing I’ll miss more than anything
Is my sweetheart. And that’s YOU.
