Teaching Birds to Sing

We noticed

that there are so few

Regent Honeyeaters

that they don’t get the chance

to hear each other.

 

They copy other birds

and sing their songs instead.

If they don’t sing their own song

they’ll all be dead.

 

We took some of them in

and played them a recording.

 

They got their voice back.

They even mimicked the static.

It was the most beautiful thing

we had ever heard.

Yes, I read about the Regent Honeyeaters in a BBC article. Slightly uplifting, very depressing.

Well said, Jude. It is something with which nature lovers are deeply concerned.
