there is little worth noting
i’m by the river
very little happens
so much is past
so much is pointless
the words don’t say it
the words are empty
meaningless
the river runs dry
once, last week, it was high
full of sand, a torrent,
now it’s a trickle
casting about the stones
it would be so easy to make a dam
to make the water deeper
yes, that would be easy, perhaps it would

I agree with Rhiannon about the frustration felt in this poem, or is it hopelessness? For If a dam would help then why not begin it? Is the dam a metaphor for what is needed in their life to make it better with an admission to not having the strength or desire to do it? Either way, it is a thought provoking poem to be sure.
