She’s in my garden again today
Searching eyes keep fear at bay
Ruby, skipping over leaf and twig
For walnut feast and nuts so big
This wet year they changed green to brown
Finally to come tumbling down
For Ruby in her hidden Oak
To munch in secret with her kin-folk
The rain comes now, it’s seldom dry
She darts away swift movements shy
Walnut in mouth big as her head
Ruby dear Ruby, my squirrel red
Red squirrels they’re so damned cute
An’ I a bloody unthinking brute
Reversed too quick; I did not see
Ruby, dead Ruby, Oh cursed I be!
Apologies to all the real poets out there – I couldn't help it.

Kerry ... how could you?
Kerry ... how could you? Ruby was perfectly happy there, eating her nuts until you wrote her squished .. shame on you. This made me smile. RIP Ruby.

Well you certainly made me smile this morning, KJD. And I was bowled over by the ending;-) As of course, was the squirrel.
And as to your ode...eat your heart out, Cyril Fletcher;-)
