Knowing then what I know now

Looking back with hindsight
Christ, now there's a scary notion
A childhood drained of innocence
Like roller-skating without motion
Sloshing in the paddling pool
weighted by the curse of humankind
Looking forward to a plastic age
GM crops, control freaks
Disregarding all they find
In my teens I'd be the geek
Who tame's the partygoer's will
Swishing vomit out the bath
Locking bedrooms
House-training overkill
A conscience fuelled
By immaturity and adolescent force
Naked trespass at the henge
Spread-eagled on a bypass
Un'changing histories course
Greenam I'd of been there
In my steely's with a tent
Bolt croppers,
Nicking coppers helmets
And unremitting vent
Up trees, at hunts, at rallies
Outrivaling one voice
Conspiring with the media
Giving the populace a choice
At uni I'd have been the one
Sitting with an O J and a twist
Saving all my energies writing up a list
Then about, in twenty years
When I'm closer to the part
I'd give up writing poetry
Surrendering my art
To join the leather seated benches
With a degree in heckling
And decrepit looking face
Fighting for the unobserved in politics
The individual, that oils the human race
Still hands tied behind my back
Moving mountains by the spoon
Divinity an outdated intervention
Best saved for weddings, funerals, and doom
A whole life wasted walking backwards
In the glimmer of all I know
Better time spent in the garden shed
Discovering
A conscience seed to sow
