Hi Rhiannon. I thought that some topicality would be relevant.
I wrote three political clerihews in 2013 regarding the coalition government at the time and thought of using them but they are well past their date and would not make an impact.

I do find Brexit one of the most spectacular examples of "cutting of your nose to spite your face"

So I guess I was one of the 48% (If I'd have been an ex-pat allowed to vote, but hey . . . at least I will stay in the EU!)

I think you collection summarises the muddled thinking over this debacle very well.

Opinions vary, Ed, as we have seen from the close result of the  referendum. But the deed is done and all it remains is to cross the Rubicon.
P.S. Whereabout are you, in order to stay in the EU?

Now a debate is springing up over whether Brexit is unconstitutional. I voted remain simply because I felt the Uk will be too isolated if we leave. Now the value of sterling has slumped and we are all hit in the pocket there has been some changing of hearts and minds.

Whenever something controversial arises we hear that it is unconstitutional without any explanation as to why it is so. Was it the referendum or the result that contravened the constitution? And whose constitution, the U.K.'s or the E.U.?
Unlike most modern states, Britain does not have a codified constitution but an unwritten one formed of Acts of Parliament, court judgments and conventions.
It is inevitable that speculators take advantage of uncertainty whether it is due to Brexit or not. It only needs someone in financial circles to sneeze for causing a run on the pound.
I don't believe there is any room for backtracking; only time will tell what the outcome will be.

Oh yes, Ed, I have heard of the objections by the Walloons.

but having worked with some I didn't find it that way, but Wallonia is definitely the poorer half of the country, hence the socialist's concerns. Now I'm retired I suppose trade deals don't concern me, but it might affect my son's prospects, but I'm not sure as he is into computer based graphic design.

Brexit is the thing that most affects me since half my pension income is paid in sterling and it's costing me serious money and so, although I was against it, I hope it is a success for purely selfish reasons!sad

Hi Ed. I was going to comment on your latest clerihew but it seems to have disappeared. Was it the one about Stephen Fry and QI?

In fact I was a bit concerned it might look anti-gay even though it wasn't intended that way, so I removed it

And also all my other Clerihews. I'm not sure they are my kind of genre really, but they are fun although I really prefer satirical ones.
