It's Not Cricket

Some Australian players,
while playing cricket
in South Africa, cheated
by roughing the ball
with sandpaper.
With this vile action
they insulted spectators
who had bought a ticket.
And all sporting fans
all round the world
were lost for words.
Now the captain carries the can
for their dirty caper.

Crisply done, Luigi.  With all the acres of newsprint that have been spent on it, you've shown you can get in all the salient facts and a bit of commentary in fifty words!

When usually watching the syllable count, it's not so easy to keep an eye on the word count in verse!

You've kept brief with clarity of meaning not being lost. Rhiannon

Hi Rhiannon.
I did not post this piece on ABC right away; I first wrote it as a Word document which shows the word count as I type, so it wasn't a problem but I still counted them manually to be certain.
The I.P. gives us a certain latitude as to the topic and I have taken the lead from Poetry24.co.uk which publisheses poems based on news headlines. The Australian kerkfuffle was in the news quite a lot recently and that gave me the idea for this poem. Glad that it didn't lose its meaning given the 50 words limit.
