Many years ago, my manager, said to me, “Ring the local chiropodist, and ask him to come and cut everyone’s toe nails.” I rang him and he replied, “No, it is too far!” He was ten minutes down the road. I thought, I am in the wrong job, if he can turn town eight pairs of feet, at a price he chose, then he does not need the money. But there are a lot of jobs in this world that I would not do, Dentist is one, Chiropody another.
A few years ago, I went with a young lady so she could have her toe nails cut. I was very impressed with Julie who did them. Julie charged the young woman £32, I thought that was expensive but, when I saw all the hard work that she put into those feet, I was very impressed.
A few months later, I too booked in with Julie, I handed over my £32 I thought it was worth it for the year. The rest of the time my Husband did mine, or I did them myself. I put her contact details in my mobile phone with the price attached, £32.
Then I missed a year and then I rang Julie up again, to have my nails done with her, the price had gone up, to £35, I thought that was expensive, but I did not go the year before and it would just be for the yearly visit, a bit of papering for me, she even listened to my heart beat, through my feet! I was very impressed, she is SO good, I could not fault her. On the way out, in the reception, she took a small foot cream from the shelf and gave it to me for free. That was a lovely touch.
The following year, when I saw Julie, I saw in the reception, fabulous, diabetic socks for sale. I bought a pair for my Husband, one for my Mum and a pair for me, they were not cheap! None of us is diabetic but they are comfy at the tops, so they do not dig in.
I was given some money, £35 recently and I thought, I will book in to have my yearly, nails done by Julie, it will be money well spent. I was informed, “The only date and time slot left is this Thursday at 3.30pm, so I booked it in for this Thursday, I asked, “How much is it?” Knowing it would be £35, the receptionist said, “Thirty-eight pounds,” I nearly died! That is ridiculous I thought, and could not back out now. After all, I was given £35 so really all I would be paying is £3.
I do not think I will be having my nails done by Julie again, I cannot justify almost £40 for someone to cut my nails, when I can do them myself or my Husband can do them for me.
Julie and her other two Co-workers do very well. I do know, that she has regular customers who go to her every 6 weeks!!! Also, diabetics go to her, and older people too.
I will look forward to this Thursday at 3.30pm. I plan to make it my last visit, ever! I have also learnt, never to say “Never.”
