It’s A Kookaburra Kind Of Christmas
By Paul McCann
I was playing Christmas carols while writing a Christmas card
The bees were all humming around the flowers in the back yard
Three Kookaburras came and started laughing as they do .
Then they were joined by magpie a shrieking cockatoo
They warbled and they laughed in the heat of the midday sun .
All the birds in the gum tree seemed to be having so much fun,’
Some king parrots came and perched around the plinth near the bird bath
A few more kookaburras arrived and they began to laugh t .
As they laughed I thought about all the Christmases I have had .
Back in the days of old when I was just a wee Belfast lad
All the Kookaburras flew away and I felt all alone .
I thought about life in Australia and how the years have flown ,
It’s a crazy kind of life sometimes when Christmas comes around ,
The chorus of life changes to a completely different sound .
Kookaburra laughing and the Christmas carols we’re singing
Little children screaming to the sound of Jingle bells ringing
There’s excitement in the air even the birds can feel it too ,
It’s a Kookaburra kind of Christmas and I’m laughing too,
