The Boys and a Baguette (IP)

"Me don't wanna play no checkers."
"But darling, yesterday-"
"-yesterday was yesterday," interjected the mother, sweeping by with a well-stocked washing basket. "Today, the little tyke will want something else."
The dark circles under her tired eyes indicated her lack of sleep and rest, but the amused smile on her face something quite another. She departed quickly.
He tried the older one. "Son, how about a nice friendly game of checkers with-"
"Nah nah nah! Me don't care anymore! Me don't wanna..."
His writer's heart ached to correct their grammatical errors, but he did not believe this would land him in their good books, already so painfully difficult to find a place in.
In a moment of sheer despair, he put himself in their shoes.
Desperately bored, needing attention, and wishing for something...different.
Suddenly inspiration struck like lightning on a perfect day. He headed to the kitchen, their screams of "Nah nah nah" following him like hungry ducks lead on by fresh bread. Bread, that was it! He opened the pantry and unwrapped the foil clad baguette. Splitting it neatly, he went back and handed one to each.
They launched into them like ravenous hyenas starved in the jungles.
A sense of satisfaction stole over him as he watched them. Soon, they finished their shares, vacated his lap, and went to pester their mother. Momentarily he felt guilty, but then he shrugged and set to work; he was already a day late with the IP for Abc Tales.
He supposed all anyone really needed was something to inspire them.
Something new, different, maybe even foreign.
Tony Cook recalled the shining faces of his two grandsons. Then he smiled and set to work.
