Why do people I speak to apologise for laughing?

Perhaps it was not good of me to respond to the Vet that my cat was not affectionate, more a grumpy old thing who complains all the time, whilst he was trying to get a hypodermic needle into her. He apologised for laughing whilst her blood spurted out all over the table.

I was lying down in the candle lit chill out room of the reflexologist’s who asked me how I had been feeling that week. I told her that I had made a big stew and been shitting for 3 days after.
She giggled and then apologised for laughing.

I am new in town and finding it hard to understand the locals. Worse they cannot understand me! C’mon people laughter is a daily necessity let’s do it, it’s okay to laugh alright?!
