The rain spills down
from the dreary grey clouds
onto the ground.
People rush by, heads covered
by multicoloured umbrellas.
The wind rushes by
from an unknown source,
buffeting the trees
making them move
this way and that way.
The thunder crashes down
from the sky overhead.
The light comes first,
then the roaring sound,
never striking in the same place twice.
I stand by the window
in the warmth of my house
as the elements rage by.
I say to my mother;
“Lovely weather!”
And we laugh together,
happy that we’re not outside.
