How, Why and who?
P K Routray
Find, we a new born child
ignorant, innocent and mild
smiling, kicking and sucking from its mother
crying when it is in pain, thirst and hunger.
Learns it further from its experiences
may be, by touch, sight and other senses
and from environmentally imparted lessons.
That is what is common man’s general observations.
They find no answer
as to how the child distinguishes sweet from bitter,
at least in smell and taste
as in them these nobody gets time to inculcate.
Who taught them to laugh and cry
one for sorrow, the other for the joy?
Who taught them to suck and move their legs and hands
and to recognize their mothers and put forth their demands.
Or from the children or childhood we retain these expressions.
Bewilder these, this author begging here for explanations
as to the “How”, “Why” and “ Who” to probe in to these surprises
as this is amusing this novice author since ages,
except believing that the child had a life earlier.
Or taught and trained by the Almighty before birth as the other answer
