Madam! Any Repentance?
P K Routray
A snap of life, prized in his heart,
my friend Amitav has preserves it free of muck and dirt
A black white photo taken almost five decade ago
to his friends of sixties and his grandkids now he exhibits its show.
The Excellency of his skill as a photographer stands proven
as in the photo the passions of pre-union love are intricately woven
one in front of the camera and the other from behind
the meeting of eyes and hearts this snap is blessed to remind.
Mouth shut to silence but hearts eager with eloquence to converse
no poet laureate are ever born to translate them in in verse.
Photography may be a plea of my friend to eye at you
mutes are witnesses but it seems you seized the opportunity too.
Congratulation to you both for the conjugal life spent in sweet harmony
Here you look best fitted in chaudhury clan to complete the symphony
From this fickle brain tickle many queries for you to answer now
that will grade Amitav on the scale of success or failure to show.
Your face speaks that your school days were not yet over,
not far behind were the days when you fought over chocolate with your sister.
With such tender mind how could you cope up with our friend
a hard cored engineer, your mistakes of addition how did you defend?
Perhaps to do well in your school examination
on English grammar You were on a tuition.
then how could you communicate with our friend
on huge English classics who reads in one go from beginning to end?
To his Madhubala, Mumtaz binocular how could you fit in?
It must be a herculean task for you at such tender age of teens.
Your calm composure here confirms your confidence on my friend
his capability to give you luxury and comfort till end.
Expecting him on par with state bureaucrats of your town
with their consort enjoying life with opulence around
but after witnessing daily Amitav returning from shift jaded and dirty
waiting for first of the month or PF loan to buy the bare commodity,
coming irritated and frustrated after a strike or a breakdown,
the after math of a promotion where his seniority was dragged down
now can you open up to yourself at teens as on the snap
whether the journey was frustrating or satisfying adding feather to Amitav’s cap.
Conclude I here with an hypothetical possibility
That you go back to the snap age and meet the Almighty
who gives you an option to follow this life as it had gone
or to choose another life with another partner everything being uncertain.
Sure I am you both will appeal Him for you the same life to spare
which hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder with love you did share.
(Sorry for length and too personal expression for my friends in the ckt.
My frien Amitav posted his marriage reception photo of 1975 with his wife specially dressed ampng the other family members.
I have never met his wife and him since 1970.
This is my post for him and his madam.)

What a lovely thought. No
What a lovely thought. No need to apologise for your personal feelings - your affection for your friend and respect for his family shine through. I loved the sentence 'A snap of life, prized in his heart'.
