A Provoked thought
Often I wander with wonder
my past six decades together
my village where I was born
the scenic beauties that, it, adorn
the mini forest with bushes, thorny
anthills, mongoose rabbits many
jackals foxes wolves hide in the day
birds with chicks in their nests play
red worms in mass swarming on field
on anthills the tasty mushrooms yield
the river’s murmur and swimming fishes
with evening wear of necklace for villagers dishes.
the river bank and on it evening breeze
howling of jackals en-mass us to freeze
without light in the darkness, the refugees we sought
for the protection of grandma/ ween fought.
Houses with mud walls and roofs of straw
on both sides of the village path, then we saw
housing the villagers with their domestic pets
to aid income and to avoid wolves, and jackal threats.
on the mid path meet villagers each other
thus the bond of the society grew stronger
even the identity and ownership of each pet
from any of the villagers, one used to get.
contrast to then and now after decades
now I live in a city in a mansion with modern aids.
My sky-kissing mansion with houses many
more than our villages those looked tiny
with modern amenities and lift service at hand
social relationship, it is hard to understand.
My early days’ revelation
“Spread the population
on the banks of rivers
so also must be my village ancestors.”
Then to me it was known
many buried civilization
advanced at that age
devasted, buried under earth coverage
now excavated, explored by archeologists
and of our past progress, we take credit
but sure I am, their destruction
it was a failure of social relation
not living with nature and going against it
attempting to overexploit it to our greedy benefit.
as we listen to jackals howling no longer.
no bushes near our dwelling places appear
we do not know our neighbors yet
sharing lift for years and staying door next.
Comparing my village back six decades
now the city and mansion that I accommodate
this is my submission humble
with provoking thoughts ample.
