Enjoy It for What It Is

Two nights at the Bristol and
Harriet’s wedding when we get back:
That’s something to look forward to!
Concrete. Satisfaction guaranteed.
So here and now isn’t all that bad
Just something to be vainly endured
Between lightning strikes of what-need-to-be-dones
And half-thoughts of a few stock things
Which might give us reason to stay cheerful.
Fuck, I didn’t fill up with petrol.
They sold downstairs for half a million.
The final end will be conveniently delayed
Since it takes place in another phase.
Consultant sloughs in, rictussy smile:
Can I get you anything Mr Richards?
Because that’s what they’ll call you.
But reckon with that now;
Try to mould your death into a thing
That bears either good or badwill
Depending on whatever fleeting association
Your mind can cast it.
