Emblem of purity
snow white,
emblem of hope: an end
to winter's night.

Poison in the ‘drop’  – don’t eat –
chemicals potent –
but one has been found
medically important.

Poisons can kill
but may do good
against an ill
when targeted aright.

Thanks, Elsie. Yes, love to see the snowdrops coming. A bit north of here they carpet the woodland floors. Lovely!

And, yes, it is interesting to see how many useful medicines seem to be found by analysing and separating the different compounds in plants. Rhiannon

I like the way you describe the fact that snowdrops can be so beautiful and yet deadly at the same time. 

I was also reading your comment to Elsie, and have to agree with you that flowers in the right quantity, recognised for healing power can be a good thing, but in most cases I'd leave it up to the professionals.

and Oh, yes, I'd leave it to the professionals, that's why I emphasised the anlaysing of the chemicals, and knowledgeable separating, isolating, testing – there are such a mixture of chemicals in the plants, and though one may be useful medically, it would be  need to be separated from the harmful things and used in the right amount, in the right way, like any other medical drug.
