Nana

Round and jolly
warm and friendly
but shallow.
Arthritis trouble increased,
and weight.

Grampa

Slow and gentle
(slow wink)
hen-pecked?
(slid off his back,
happy yoke)
hard-working MP
a listening ear
integrity
steady faith
fun.

Your face has the shapes of theirs! I like very much how your poem shows two such different characters give strength to each other. I didn't know your Grampa was an MP, he looks very conscientious and honourable, so was intriguing how your last word about him is "fun", perhaps something not everyone would know. Your poem made me think of a river, with light ripples on the top, and strong steady current causing change on the bottom

How beautifully analysed, Di. Thank you. He was from humble, working background, and concerned for the difficulties of dock-workers when he was elected, but he had respect for all in his constituency, whatever their problems, and for his colleagues of the other parties. And a love of trying to investigate local history. He had a lovely twinke, and yes, a loving sense of fun with us grandchildren. I'm in the middle of the lower photo in a pale dress, age about 5, around the Christmas tree!
