Where the 2 rivers meet
By Rhiannonw
- 1897 reads
Lingering by the lapping Lugg
longing to glimpse another flash
of Kingfisher blue in the leaning
willows fringing and shading the earthy banks,
sooty damselflies flitting by,
abundant round the nettles.
Where the two rivers meet
seven swans come down the Wye
one twirls in the swirl of the whirling currents
as the two rivers merge,
then they glide awhile, resting and feeding
at the quieter edge waters;
hard paddle later to clear the tumbling rushing water
as they return to feed in the calmer flow
back higher up mid-stream:
a dreamy lunch-time scene,
but life is full and busy in the hidden community
of the sheltered river banks of Herefordshire.

This is truly beautiful,
This is truly beautiful, Rhiannon. Full of brilliant alliteration and rhyme. You tell a story and paint a vivid picture with words. I think you must have put so much thought into this, and it's very well done. If I could write a picture of cherries, I'd pick this to give them to. Wish I was there. I'd be longing for just one more flash of blue, too.

Hello again Rhiannon,
Hello again Rhiannon,
This too is a lovely evocation of a lazy, hazy summer's day. For a brief while I was transported to that river bank I saw those seven swans and glimpsed the Kingfisher and for a few moments I lived in Heredforshire. Thank you for sharing.this idyll.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
I like the internal rhyme in the line "one twirls in the swirl of the whirling currents"
Lovely poem with one of your many pleasant views.
