Red, white & blue hats atop red,
blue & white heads permed-fluffy

bobbing, nodding 'neath feathers
flowers and tissue paper roses -

stuffed with cup-cakes and nibbles,
dazed, glazed with bucks fizz, they

flirt to catch our eyes, strutting their
stuff for England, Queen and country..

The lady herself flickers on the
backdrop, waving a gloved hand,

her own bonnet secure as her smile -
their idol, contemporary and

inspiration for high hats, low hats,
looking-much-the-same-hats,

until at last, a hat with a difference -
red-arrows cut-out above the row of

Royals, perfectly formed upon a
mock palace-balcony brim....

As the creator and hat-maker-
extraordinaire accepts her prize,

it's raised glasses all round before
we, the judges, take our leave to the

strains of God save the Queen - and
may God bless `em all, sailing into

the sunset of their lives with their
jubilee hats just a little askew

Thanks for that parson thru! I've done several more versions since this one and getting bored by it now. I know bits are ok and bits are very NOT okay. Sometimes I think certain pieces are just not meant to be and I should accept that. Expect it to disappear again tomorrow!!

That's so kind of you, Tina. As it's all true, I had a feeling I'd made it too literal and perhaps that's why I struggled. Who knows? I've been `tweaking' for days and still not happy with certain bits but I so appreciate your feedback - many thanks. Coral ;-)

This is definitely a painting of a poem or a very detailed and colourful snapshot. You've brought that entire weekend back to life for me. There's a tiny typo here: "untl at last".

new seashore Hi! shoe well deserved cherries! definitely. Enjoyed all especially the hats. Watched all on tv fantastic beginning to end. Apart from H.R.H. Duke of Edingburgh not well. Now home hospital,and improved. Today is H.R.H. Duke of Cambridge, Prince William 30th Birthday, A very happy birthday, sent card. In return lovely photos,I received and thanks,re their first wedding Anniversary at the time. And the Duchess Kate. One from H.M. The Queen before,ma'am wonderful words, and six photos of her "Diamond Wedding, my goodness me. Stuck all on window,job get off! Can you hear me squealing delight! All because thanked them, well why! not. But get replies, gobsmacked. Took loads photos of tv computer crashed lost all kinds of things! But mine got dvd done great. The Editor t.cook said how pleased I'd be, yep! overwhelmed. But a bit of collector from mum's time, neighbour when mum died,brought me box of mags: and Diana way back! Charity shop books,and now,bought Queen's "Diamond Jubliee, "A Life In Pictures" fab large so much in,past and now! "My Weekly" cheap so much history and beautiful pictures and photos all. take care julie x
