EarthAirFireWaterEther

Dawn breaks
in this small town
where it drizzles
I sit at my desk
and quietly it says
‘I was once a bird
a moth a butterfly
its wings
wet with dew’
A spark from the fire
says, ‘I was once
a shell on a beach
that was once the light
of a firefly
trapped in a jar’
The drizzle stops
I take a walk
along the street
as evening drips
from the trees
who tell me they
were once the wind –
my feelings of elation
and pain...the needing
to be free...to be lost
to be found again
And the moon
newly risen
from the sea
says it was once
the root
of a baobab tree
that reached eternity
and even farther
And I tell
the desk
the spark
the trees
the sea
and the moon
that once I was
a fluffy white cloud
floating high
above it all
to become as one
with the ether...
the breath
kisses softly
a lover’s eyes
