I'd Die for a Cherry... (I.P.)

Give anything to taste
a luscious, ripe morello...
to spritz its dark, rich notes
of cinnabar and spice
upon my cheeks –
my nose, my lips,
like rainbow preludes
feathering the air...
From another room
the tinkling of piano
echoes round my head;
capricious to a fault
inspired to climb
the cherry tree – hide
between its branches
and sate myself
on cornelian delights.
My eyelids grow heavy;
in half sleep, half reverie...
arpeggios, diminuendos,
sotto voce, fill my dreams
as, through an open window,
wafts the smell of cherry jam
in the offing, and the dying
strains of Grandpa’s routine
of Debussy, of an afternoon.

I can hear the piano now, Tina! I love the interweaving of taste and sounds - especially that musical imagery. A delicious poem and well deserving of a delicious cherry ;)
