Seeing her off
at the airport,
there is always the fear
that, this time,
she won’t
be coming back...
driving in your car...
after...is when
you first arrive
at the dark,
inconceivable
underworld
of wormwood
and maggots, feasting
on festering flesh
and the needing
of all things yellow –
like spangled sunlight
dancing in her hair...
hair you combed
and plaited
before tucking her
in her bed...
in her slumberous,
soft-shuttered room;
so small,
and so very home.

When all's said and done Tina,
no matter where we go in life, there's no place
like home. As you put so well here.
I have a feeling this is about your granddaughter,
don't know if I'm right or not.
I'm sure the comforts of home, will bring her back.
Lovely read.
Jenny.

experience and doing such a positive job.
Wish her well from me.

I wondered too if this was your granddaughter. As usual, beautifully put and the ending brought a lump to my throat.
I trust all goes well for her, Tina.

Hello Tina, Your
Hello Tina,
Your granddaughter is going to do a worthwhile job and you have honoured her with this wistful, caring, slightly anxious poem.
