Call Of The Wild

Howl of wolves
shoots across tips
of mountain ridges,
their echoes both
near and far,
gesturing their
tribes on this vast
open expanse,
spirals of reckless sound
both skim and touchdown
upon the brutal savagery of
this environment, navigating
nature's necessity to unify both
disciplined man and untamed feral,
who when locked onto its feast,
needs no command.
With flush of euphoria,
eyes of azure sparkle
exhilarated by the chase,
seduced by scent from
sunrise to sunset,
pounding trails,
leaping, diving
rocky terrain, that
only spirits of the dead
hear; those calls under
a celestial blanket.

You have managed to capture the essence of the animal, wonderfully told.

Like this, Jennifer. There is definitely something haunting about these wild dogs. In Canada my granddaughter used to go to camps in the forest to be among them.
