Arrival Of Storm Eunice on our

Shores. Friday 18th February 2022.

 

In manner of dramatic play Eunice came today,

storming in...creating drama – stage of moods,

capturing tempest of emotions, tornado thrusting

mystery that leaves its audience to frown,

 

Presenting edgy charisma; hostile treachery,

then hysterical bewail of tears rain down;

was it evidence of mourning gods

feeling sorrow, bereft of smitten love?

 

Or wind searching like a bird of prey on wing?

With meticulous actions: not one stone upturned,

yet leaving trails of devastation; while baffled

spectators watch on.

Hope you are ok, you are in the worst bit, aren't you? Was bad enough here :0) It does feel a bit like being in the clutch of a bird of prey!

Very topical and relevant to the I.P., Jenny. 
I hope you haven't been affected by the storm. Here we had a lot of rain and moderate wind but nothing drastic. Let's hope for better conditions.

Hi insert,

we've had the worst storm ever here, it was like a tornado ripped through. We've lost our greenhouse which completely colapsed and there's broken glass everywhere. The storm also blew our fencing down and was so strong it knocked over two brick pillars. I'm devasted because it's going to cost so much to put right, the worst part is that the fencing and pillars landed in next door neighbours garden and we can't get a repair done till May.

Thankfully I wrote this poem before we'd seen the damage.

Hi Paul,

it's so horrible to find so much devastation, there's so much to clean up here with glass everywhere, bricks lying around and fencing blown down.

You're right about us being in one of the worst areas hit, I've never seen wind like it, apart from in Florida. It was tragic to see so much damage, but thankyou for your kind words.

I'm glad you yourselves are ok! Though it is sad about your greenhouse going, again, and scarey glass and the fence, I am very glad you are safe, and your home, and your power and water working.

Ah! Thank you Di, like you say it could have been a lot worse. I think sometimes it's that moment of shock when you see damage, it's like being broken into and trashed. But yes we're fine and I'm pleased to see a glorious moon shining bright tonight.

Hi Luigi,

I was so upset to find our greenhouse blown down, we have decided not to replace, it will cost too much to get a new one, especially the size of the one we've been used to.

But hey ho! Such is life and nature.

I'm so sorry to hear about the damage - it sounds awful! As Di says though, at least no-one was hurt and you hopefully still have power and are warm. We had a red warning here too and (fingers crossed) not too much damage so far, though I can hear that a the roof of a little porch above the back door is gradually breaking off - it seems worse now, even though the red wind speeds stopped at 3pm

I hope you manage to find someone to fix it before May - that's a very long time to wait!

Many thanks for your kind words insert. Our neighbours on one side lost their perspex roof, which landed in bits in our garden. We live quite high up and our street is like a wind tunnel, so that's why we took the brunt of the weather.

I rang a couple of people to get fenciing fixed, but there's so many fences come down they've been undated with calls. We have a man coming out on Wednesday to estimate the damage and give us a quote, hopefully he'll be able to get to us sooner, but said I shouldn't build my hopes up. I'm not really that worried about having gaps between gardens, it's more about the old couple next door, the lady in her 80s is not well and like me she suffers with anxiety, so that's why I'm more anxious.

Thankfully we're are okay and now I'm over the major shock, I can rest a little easier.

your thoughtful words are very much appreciated, and I have the curtains open and looking at a bright moon as I type this comment. Isn't it strange how the weather can change so quickly? Now it's calm and a clear night and you would never have known there had been a storm.

my partner and the next door neighbour have cleared a lot of the mess and piled up bricks ready to rebuild the pillars, just have to wait for the man to come and give us an estimate on fencing. It's a great relief that the damage wasn't too bad, it all seemed worse when I first saw it, now though I can rest easier.
