Need To Survive

Beneath the
Glitz
And glam
Is a world
Where poverty
And crime
Walk hand
In hand,
Where
Forced
Copulation
Screams out
In the
Night...
But nobody
Comes,
Beware entering
These infested
Waters,
Where sharks
Will eat
You up
And spit
You out,
Destitution
Grows,
Clinging like
Lichen to
Shipwrecks
Hiding in
Deepest
Depths,
Those
Yawning
Entrances
Entice
Another
Face
With
False hope...
Yet! There's
Crying of a
Newborn
Chained to
This existence,
Needing to
Survive
Another day,
Child's binds
Pulling her
Further down
Into the abyss,
Veiled
So deep
A mystery is
Created,
Drifting from
One rage to
The next,
Grief
Making this
Girl stronger,
Needing to
Survive.
This piece was inspired by Celticman's latest story.

Really poignant Jennifer. I
Really poignant Jennifer. I like the arrangement, the way you've stretched the verse down as if stretching the reader down to the depths of society. I sometimes wonder how anyone can be truly happy when there's always horrible things happening, every second of every day. I suppose we have to focus on the positive and the drive to live like the newborn in your poem.

To start with, I thought it
To start with, I thought it was like long serrated knife, but then having survive as the last word, seemed like a rope pulling up a life. You tell a story so few words. "drifting from one rage to the next" is very powerful

Your sparse concise
Your sparse concise description is so telling and clear, skilfully written.
Oh, for something better than grief and rage giving some sort of survival. For a real outstretched hand with genuine care offered and taken up. Rhiannon

ring of fire
Hi Jennifer! I know it's probably inappropriate but I thought of Johnny Cash, I fell into a burning ring of fire.
I hope that you are well and recovering from the injury.
& Stay well!

Dear Jenny,
Dear Jenny,
I can concur with all the favourable comments you have received. Thouroughly merited, as were the cherries awarded for this poem. Your writing is always exciting. Well done.
Keep well.
