In the Stillness of the Night

When darkness approaches
there's songs to be sung;
of moonlight and kisses
and a heart beating strong,
my haven the earth
the place I call home,
as night scented stocks
have a heady cologne.
Solitude and quiet sits motionless,
no action's required – I breathe in
the fragrance with eyes that aren't tired,
just the sense of peace that transpires.

This so very beautiful, Jenny
This so very beautiful, Jenny, and the title atmospheric.
A couple of tiny typos : last stanza, should be 'I breathe in' and in the first stanza, I think should be either 'hearts beating strong' or 'a heart beating strong'.
You mentioned night-scented stocks...their perfume is totally out of this world, and I can't wait until they are in bloom again, and your comparison of a 'heady cologne' suits their fragrance, admirably.
A lovely poem, much enjoyed.

I really liked this, too, Jenny. Tina is right - 'atmospheric' is the word to describe this.

Hello. I've not been on too often lately and wondered if you had. Nice to read a poem from you again. This is like a song - and the first two lines are so simply melodic. I dream of one day owning my own house and one with a garden! Flowers that you can smell in the evening definitely! Have just got back from a day out by train to Gloucester - so reading your mention of the Cotswolds etc was lovely because the train journey, in sunshine and with all the new greeness was wonderful.

You draw a picture of a peaceful evening, and of lovely garden scents to notice in the quiet.
I was interested too in Catherine's comment above, as one can have lovely countryside views out of those big train windows, if the train isn't going too fast! Rhiannon
