Christmas Crumb

Santa Claus is just a myth
Created for the easily led
He used to be dressed all in white
Until coca cola turned him red
Retailers helped the myth grow
Ringing a bell and ho ho ho
Religion hangs on a Christmas tree
And keeping all the chimneys free
Hush now children don’t ask why
You’ve never seen a reindeer fly
The cost of love in the festive season
Goes way beyond a sense of reason
Spending and giving has crossed a line
Why is your present bigger than mine
And those games for PlayStation 4
Teaching children to accept war
Cod and Black Ops, blood hidden away
How Christian is Christmas today
Midnight Mass to an empty church
Homeless kids left in the lurch
Trinkets seep in to the yuletide mood
Trolleys full of too much food
Credit cards melt and scream
Debt comes long after the cream
Poverty is smothered by the news
Nobody has the Christmas blues
Sing those carols raise that voice
Ignore those who have no choice
Greed is a tale that’s turned us numb
Conscience is a tiny Christmas crumb
