I Was With You That Night

In the grainy filmstock of a remembered summer eve,
I was with you, while the world went on,
My sun-bleached hair swept back, with browning tan,
And you were so beautiful, my muse,
Millions of tiny flies rising from the long grass,
Making whirlwind wanderings across the blue sky,
Verging on purple with illuminous clouds,
And the glowing sun on the horizon,
Slowly sinking and dampening the light,
The scent this exudes, the very scent,
Is enough to make me cry on this rainy November day,
When those feelings are so distant,
And so are you,
But on that night we kissed,
And the prospect of this early summer bliss,
Filled my body with delicate butterflies,
My heart beat faster,
For there you were, my one and only,
Sweater over your shoulders and smiling,
You were holding my hand that night,
So tight, you were a single fragile petal of a daisy,
Yet the pillar holding me from crashing to earth with such melancholy,
And as I lie awake on this cold November night,
With the duvet wrapped round my ears,
Dreaming longingly of the summer,
And all it's seductive crecendos of romance,
I shed a tear,
And I re-live those moments that complete me,
Feeling only one thing truely helps me through -
I'm glad you still love me.
