apprentice
…and what shall we do with him
she asked
he can do some work for me…
he said
…and so it was
i joined the family firm
on a monday
full of sunshine and promise
out in the new van
the colour chosen
by a salesman
with gold teeth…
who said
…a strong colour
for a business
will attract
customers…
about the lad
gold tooth asked
looking at me
from
a distance
…not the sharpest but he’ll do for now
he replied
…i heard the talk
and closed the lid
on my new tool box
full of blunted dreams…
