Precious Moment

I stop thinking, stop feeling
For a brief moment
While I watch your face
So dear to me
So familiar
And safe.
How can I live without this?
No contact, no warmth.
Just the cold earth and the fading memory
Of your brilliant smile.
You have not yet gone
You linger on, fighting
But your strength is weak
And cannot last the long night ahead.
You're weary now.
Your body loosing the will to carry on.
Yet you find it within you
To grace my moment with a gentle smile.
My heart shatters silently.
