Taking Photos

I don’t have a photo of us
In three years
We managed just one
And you kept that
To give to your mother
I took photos of you
But you didn’t capture me
A latent fear of making it real
“You don’t live in the real world”
So many times you told me that
How would it look I suppose
If suddenly there I was
Existing next to you
Photographs hold memories
You didn’t hold me much
Not where anyone might see
I was always misremembering
Never getting it right
Perhaps I imagined us
My fault again
I sit staring at the blank album
Soft focus lighting
Casting shadows
On ghosts
