THE HARD WAY ( I.P. )

To sit here in thought cheek resting on fist
trying hard to slow down the years,
while wisps of hair fall across my face
landing in the watery fluid, the wish-wash
that comes only adds to my personal burden,
frustration taking control,
"stop this bumbling,"
words once rampant
now I fear lost and hopeless.
"Stop! listen to yourself, make no mistake
this ain't gonna be easy, stuck in self-pity
saturated by confusion,
you took a journey went to hell and back,
had a baby and nearly sold your soul out for money,
but survived, out of bins, walked streets
trusting no one, learning to beg was your game."
Waking up to a new day
you put your life back on course,
went to the graveyard the church calling you,
inside a prayer maybe answered
but then the tears start to flow,
I hear these words inside my head,
'take my hand don't hesitate,
the sands of time are running late,
life is but a turning point
don't let yourself down
don't disappoint.'
Time to change an unseen presence close,
leading me on to where I find myself today,
It wasn't easy I had to learn 'the hard way'.
