Not Dead, Just Sleeping

They wheeled me out of the house that day,
A heavy and cumbersome load,
The skies were full and typically grey,
As we crossed a familiar road.
Pushed into the back, the car sleek and black,
I wondered how long this would take,
This stately progression of these cars in procession,
Winding up to the church like a snake.
It looked fairly busy there were plenty of cars
All neatly parked in a line,
We turned at the church through the courtyard we lurched,
And stopped at an unloading sign.
Is that Robert? I thought, check the suit that he bought,
His wife’s getting bigger I see,
I’d like to see Joe but I doubt that he’ll show,
As Chelsea play Arsenal at three.
Up we go lads, I feel for your backs,
But I’m glad that we’re moving once more,
Bend down cause that beam’s not as high as it seams,
Place me up near the front on the floor.
Oh no here we go this will be slow,
My story and all of my sins,
The worst and the best for all to digest,
Punctuated with sermons and hymns.
Well that went quite fast we’re outside at last,
And it’s raining once more that’s a shame,
It was nice to see Jan she looks great with that man,
And I’m so glad that Anthony came.
Is that big hole for me? It looks awfully deep.
It must be, my friends are around,
Gosh this is dreary they all look so weary,
And nobody’s making a sound.
So is this how it ends my family and friends,
All huddled and troubled and weeping?
Well I’ve something to say that will brighten this day,
See, I’m not really dead I’m just sleeping!
