When the Urge is Upon You!

When the Urge is Upon You
I feel a poem coming on
Am I wrong?
Could be worse
Might try a verse
Don’t be stupid
You think like cupid
An arrow in the heart
What a dreary start
It might rhyme
It might chime
Makes no sense
So no recompense
Think you’re clever
Only in bad weather
Been like this for ages
And all without wages
What do you expect?
Clever verse I suspect
You’re out of luck
Don’t give a flying
You can fill in the rest
I’ve done me best
I’m tired now
So I’ll take a bow
And toddle off to bed
With my pounding head
Goodnight one and alling
Sorry this verse so appalling
Crikey it’s morning
It came without warning
Thought it still night time
Nearly gave you my last rhyme
But no why should I
I’ve still got one good eye
These lines won’t go to waste
When all in the best possible taste!
So go write your own verse
It can’t be much worse
Than what I’ve written down
But then I’m not a poet I’m more of a clown
